Commissioned by Stanley Marcus for the Neiman Marcus Mermaid Bar at NorthPark Center, Dallas, this installation is one of only three complete ensembles created by Danish artist Bjørn Wiinblad. Comprised of a mermaid, ship, five fish, and twenty plates, the 27-piece work embodies Wiinblad’s theatrical style—ornamented surfaces, whimsical figures, and narrative fantasy.

Two ensembles remain permanently installed in Dallas; this example, later moved to the Neiman Marcus store in Fort Lauderdale, is the only known set in private hands. Its rarity and provenance make it a significant American commission in Wiinblad’s career and a vivid expression of Marcus’s vision to integrate art and design into everyday spaces.
