A Frottage technique is invented from the application of heat and beeswax rubbed onto a National Geographic from the 1970’s to transfer its ink to the Japanese rice paper. The leaves are placed under the paper when the process occurs, revealing their form as an imprint. The process harnesses metamorphic qualities, and embodies a transference of time to the present state - my memory is now embodied in a symbolic gesture. The work explores the leaf image as both a simulacrum, a reminder of our increasing psychological distance from nature, and a universal representation of cycles, decay and regrowth.
