I got 2nd place! There's nothing so challenging as painting outside. This looks like a simple painting, but it took me 3 mornings on location, and a bit more time in my studio to finish this simple image. Partly because I don't paint outside as much as some of my artist friends. The 'Remember the Maine Park up Dry fork Canyon in the Vernal Utah area isn't just another park. It's got a lot of history. The flag painted on the cliff face is in commemoration of Pearl Harbor, and how the ship from the state of Maine was heroic in helping end the conflict. At times there were lots of hawks flying across the face of the cliff, and their images were doubled as their shadow was cast on the rock cliff as they flew around in the morning sun.
