I wrote a song called "Lightning Strikes" several months before I made this painting. The lyrics to the song I wrote are the best way for me to describe the story behind this work:

The thought of leaving this world, feeling old
Pain so big, incomprehensible
All I could do was freeze

When the lightning strikes, why don't we run away?
By the time the lightning strikes, it's too late
Is it too late?

I tried to leave early
Feeling young wasn't for me
I couldn't hear my own voice scream

My body knew the ache, but I couldn't see the zig zag glow
Not even when the lightning struck me

So when the lightning strikes, would you run away with me?
