I saw this sweet little family in Utah. This is a mare with her new foal, and another mare from the band of mustangs I saw resting near a water hole. Family bonds are strong with wild horses. Stallions fight to the death to keep their families and the entire band takes care of each other. When mustangs are rounded up with helicopters and removed from our public land to make more room for private ranchers, they are separated from their families.
This painting captures a candid moment in time when these three were free and enjoying the warmth of the sun a month before the round up.
