Nicci Sevier-Vuyk is a contemporary American artist known for her striking acrylic paintings of iconic objects from American culture. Her art is inspired by her fascination with the relationship between appearance and meaning, as well as her exploration of themes related to beauty stereotypes.
Nicci's love for painting began in her early years and is complemented by her successful career as a pediatric nurse practitioner. Although she has studied at The Glassell School of Art in Houston, she is primarily self-taught, forging her own unique path as an artist.
Nicci has had four solo exhibitions and has been included in many juried exhibitions. Nicci’s work has been added to Fidelity Investment Corporate Art Collection (2023).
Born in northern California, Nicci now resides in Southborough, Massachusetts, where she continues to create works of art that challenge our perceptions and illuminate the beauty and complexity of the world around us.
Statement
Nicci Sevier-Vuyk’s artwork is a playful reflection of the stereotypes surrounding beauty and appearance. The lens of nostalgia, childhood memories and familiar objects allow her to investigate the contradictions she finds in society’s definition of what is desirable. The minimalist and representational style of her paintings and sculptures encourage an iconic feeling about the object, further magnifying what the item means to us as individuals and as a society.
