Pink and purple plumerias explode in burst of color across a dark lava background, evoking the spirit of Hawaii.
This piece of collage painting was commissioned by G. Fritz Benedict, astronomer at the University of Texas at Austin and plumeria whisperer. In this painting, I incorporated hand-painted and printed maps of Austin, star charts, sheet music about the stars, as well as Hawaiian tourist literature and textural mulberry paper. The background has black paint, gold leaf and deep blue crackle paste to suggest Hawaii's volcanic origins.
