"Frontenac Sunrise" was painted en plein air during 2022 Red Wing Plein Air. I was standing in Old Frontenac, MN looking through the trees and across the Mississippi River as the sun rose over the bluffs on the Wisconsin side of the river. I made real-time color notes on a small throw-away scrap of canvas and used them to create this larger piece after the 10 minute light show was over.
