This piece was painted en plein air in Glenbeulah, WI for Paint the Town in Fall Colors 2022 (Plymouth, WI). The airy, colorful flowers caught my eye as I was driving around looking for something to paint. The garden obviously caught the eye of many bees and birds and flying things because they were busily flitting around on this sunny fall day.
It won a merit award and here are the printed words from the juror:
"This is one of those paintings wherein two paintings actually exist within the frame. There's the overall composition of the recognizable house and car, and then there's the flutter, hum and buzz of the garden. A veritable picture in a picture. The way in which this particular green is described by the artist is as symphonic as it is suggestive of fireworks. I sense the grace of a musical composition with the color bursts of Fourth of July fireworks, making this painting feel like a Wisconsin celebration of pride of place. This is exactly the kind of work of art that compels you to dream of planting your own garden (which is a work of art as well.)"
