Just try and stop her. Ambitious, beautiful, and strong. She's also angry. Why you ask?
When I first met Clementine, the model in the above painting, we were discussing our favorite Shark Tank episodes. Clementine told me she had a great idea and needed money. She decided to ask her father, a man of means if he could help her finance it. He said, "No. because you're a girl, and your brother will need it." I didn't know how to respond other than to ask her to hold that thought while I snapped a photo of her expression. I knew this photo reference for my painting would capture her raw emotions. I felt them too. Can you?
Women across the globe are unleashing years of frustration and anger at being marginalized and assaulted. There's no stopping Clementine or any woman being poorly treated. I want my figurative paintings to capture these visceral emotions and go beyond the subtle defiance of my past work.
