The title of this exhibit translates the emotions of a cancer survivor’s journey from diagnosis to recovery. In Spring 2008, I was diagnosed with cancer and as an artist and art instructor I felt compelled to put my feelings on canvas. The treatment put my artwork on hold and I discovered how much I missed my art and expressing my creativity. I now create art every day and it brings me so much happiness and healing. I am thrilled to share that I have been cancer free for 10 years and I am so blessed.
In the series The Energy of Emotions, my paintings use two different characteristics. One statement is the use of vivid colors to convey emotions. The second is the complexity of shapes, motion, composition and the titles of the paintings.
In the painting, In Time #2, the viewer will experience the use of blue, which represents the emotions of sadness, depression and confusion. The title represents the feelings of the patient when given the diagnosis of cancer.
In the painting Secret of the Heart #12, vivid colors are used to represent such emotions as gratitude, joy, happiness, love for self and all humanity.
I invite you to take a journey with me and explore my difficult experience as my emotions are transformed from anxious, afraid and overwhelmed to acceptance, peace, happiness and ultimately love and joy.
As Rumi says “Never lose hope my dear heart. Miracles dwell in the Invisible”.
