Artist: Sheila Bayley (Kenyan, b. 1986)
Sheila Bayley is a self-taught contemporary artist based in
Nairobi. Her style is easily recognizable for its vibrancy, patterns, distinct dark lines,
and conceptual figurative forms. With a bachelor’s degree in psychology, she
explores the balance between nature-nurture, and how it determines human social
behaviour.
Bayley’s current body of work is mostly influenced by her search for an evolved
sense of self and identity, and her interest in African architecture, fashion, and
lifestyle. It comprises various sizes of acrylic and mixed-media paintings on canvas,
paper, and board. She has a deep connection and passion for the development of
Art in East Africa, and dreams of creating a system of education that is centered
around Art, as a life skill and career.
In 2021, she was the guest artist at the Kobo Open Studio Art Sale & Exhibition in
Nairobi. Her artworks are part of private collections locally and internationally in
Kenya, Zanzibar, Miami, New York, Paris, UAE, Australia, and Switzerland.
