I like to experiment with contrasts in my work. For this piece, I laminated four wood boards and created a smooth, flowing black surface on the outside that almost looks like steel. Then, I carved into the wood creating a randomly flowing and edgy pattern. The interplay of the carved shapes, the wood grain and the natural wood colors establish an interesting contrast to the smooth outside of the sculpture.
