MK Wynn is a painter & printmaker with a background as a professor in psychology and the cognitive sciences; her art is significantly informed and shaped by her research on how the human mind is built to impose structure & meaning upon the world (for which she was recognized with an award by the National Academy of Sciences). She retired early from her professorship at Yale University in 2019, pivoting to a career in art. In 2023 she launched Verdigris Gallery & Printmaking Studio with goals to increase local exposure to & knowledge of contemporary printmaking as fine art to area collectors & the general public; provide instruction & education in ecologically safer, low-to-nontoxic printmaking materials & practices; and support & promote emerging, under-represented, & underexposed artists. Her work addresses psychological themes, including: The relation of the individual to the collective; the human experience of embodied empathy and other emotions; the unseen and unknown, things that ‘lie beneath the surface’ (the minds of others, our own subconscious desires & fears, things that reside in the human collective unconscious). In 2024 she was accepted to membership in the renowned Boston Printmakers. Her work has exhibited & is in permanent collections in North America, Europe & Asia, and published in The Hand Magazine, the Daily Nutmeg, and other venues.
