Statement
Dance and artmaking have been my constant companions since childhood. Art is my sanctuary. Movement is my mother tongue. Photography records my conversations with the world. The primary theme that runs through my work is the question: at what point do familiar textures and shapes take on new forms, suddenly shifting into focus to reveal a hidden creature or a deeper meaning? Through environmental immersion, my lens-based art is an ongoing conversation with the energetic connections of an environment, self-portraiture, and the hidden mysteries in plants and trees.
Harnessing the vocabulary of kinetic forms, self-portraiture, and documentation, my art is a deeply personal feminist treatise on the politics of the female body and its relationship to the environment. Drawing from a synthesis of influences - feminism, industrial punk, 20th-century underground art movements, surrealism, and global culture - my body of work ranges from documentary shots of a chosen moment to digital and analog collages - multiple images that are dismembered (cut up), layered (rebuilt), and transformed into new creations. By following an intuitive process of discovery and experimentation, the abstractions in my images reveal the overlooked moments that define our reality.
