With an art based on concrete reality, artist Petrașcu creates a perfectly accomplished work, where portraits, landscapes, still life and interiors form an intimate, restricted and familiar universe. Therefore, his work springs from the realities of daily life, from the places he visits, from the contact with his fellow human beings, the same face, the same object, the same house forming, each and every time, new compositions. Within this intimate universe, the artist will pay a special attention to studio interiors, which are present in his repertoire with an intense frequency between 1935 and 1940, a period during which he will be in Târgoviște, Techirghiol, Bucharest and surroundings. In the studio interior paintings, the artist's creation brings to our attention the integration of the national element, suggested by the presence of artisanal carpets with a black background or flower motifs, as well as by the decorative stylization of the elements, as well as the sober chromatic. One of the interiors that the artist most frequently immortalises will be the Târgoviște studio, built in the spring of 1922, where he will be working for almost twenty years, starting from 1924, when he retreats to this quiet town. When he does not work in his studio, we see him wander street of the small town with his wife and daughter, whom he often portrays, as well as around the ruins of the Royal Court, where he often sets up his easel in order to work outdoors. (G.M.)
