Texture rules create a rich ground with layered papers built, the depth and marks that start everything. From here, the layers are built with large, bold shapes to create a jumping-off point. The simplification allows the space of the organic marks, sgraffito, graphite and layered marks to take center stage.
The process involves layering paint, collage, paint and more paint, layers and layers with colours, shapes and designs that are scraped, sanded, scratched and dug into, repainted, revealing and leaving bits of the past, the history of each layer. A story emerges that blends this history with the final design, which is rich in texture. The beauty is in the discovery, the rich surface and the hidden bits that can only be seen by getting in close and exploring its secrets.
