It was a delightful surprise when producer Kimberly Hellem with Cheap Old Houses reached out to us last spring to collaborate and feature Miriam's work in a Season 2 Episode 4 “Harmonious Home” of HGTVs show now called "Who's Afraid of a Cheap Old House?".
Unlike most home shows that completely change the home's character through remodeling, this show identifies historical old homes to “save” and renovates them to restore and preserve their original design and craftsmanship.
Restoring the c. 1880s Italianate mansion in Cambridge, NY presented quite a challenge for the show's leads Elizabeth and Ethan Finkelstein. The show’s interior designer Jennifer Salvemini also had a challenge integrating the homeowners' very diverse design styles of mid-century modern with modern contemporary.
Jennifer selected “Orange Abstract” created during Miriam's time studying at the Art Student's League of New York in New York City in 1959 during the height of the American Abstract Expressionist movement. We provided a museum-quality Giclée reproduction of the piece which Jennifer hung over the stunning slate gray fireplace in the mid-century modern decorated living room. We enjoyed working with the Cheap Old Houses team and look forward to future opportunities.
We have a museum-quality Giclée limited edition reproduction of the same 1959 “Orange Abstract” available on our Etsy store as you see in the episode on HGTV. We would love to see it in your home or design project!
