Through the centuries, artists have painted the biblical story found in Matthew 5-7 of the Sermon on the Mount using the landscape of their country as the background. Miriam’s piece on the same subject follows this artistic tradition and depicts the story with the mountains and cliff rocks overlooking Highway 280 south of Birmingham in Alabama.

“I had been out painting an old barn as a stable when a young girl asked me to come back to their mass that evening. I did not realize the mass was high up on the mountain and on a very sloped series of rocks. I was very thankful to come back down safely and put the scene of the painting in daylight hours.”
