This early circa 1960’s drawing of downtown Birmingham, Alabama highlights the booming skyline with the historic 27-story City Federal/Comer Building built in 1913 in the distance. The perspective is looking north down what is now Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd (then 21st Street South) toward the heart of the city. The smaller buildings and homes as well as the wall with the “Alabama Oct 15” advertisement in the foreground have long since been demolished. This piece is one of the very few vintage drawings of downtown remaining in Miriam’s collection.
