Blue Series
The "Blue" series of mixed media paintings on canvas from 2023 centers on my Ukrainian-American identity, using imagery from my childhood as a way to honor my grandmother and the warmth she brought into my life. The series of six abstract paintings is anchored by "Blue," 38 x 38 x 2.5" framed, the largest, and includes five 10 x 10 x 1.5" studies. "Blue Series No. 1" and "Blue Series No. 5" are in a private collection in Brooklyn, NY.
Fungi & Lichen
I love the textures and patterns and colors found on fungi and lichen. I've photographed these organisms all over the world. Magnified through the lens of a camera, details on fungi and lichen become fantastical and invite abstraction. When I paint, my goal is not to replicate what I see. Nature is already perfect as it exists to me. I'm exploring how paint expounds on colors, textures and forms to reimagine what is seen. Lichen transforms into an underwater landscape.
Works on Paper : SeeSaw Gallery x Artsy : Provence, France
Each original artwork in Rêverie is a glimpse into life in Provence—studies of twisted olive trees, still lifes of fruit from the market, botanical explorations and views of Aleppo pines growing in the limestone cliffs of the Calanques. The dreamscapes are Rossi's musings from art residency in Maussane, France, May-June 2024.
Canvas Panels : Tokyo, Japan
This series of six unique canvas panels was created at Anderson Ranch Arts Center following a 2022 studio intensive with artist Leslie Shows. The imagery in this series originates from details of my painting "Magenta," which were UV printed onto raw canvas and then further abstracted with acrylic paint. The saturated image contrasts with the surrounding raw canvas, evoking the aesthetic of a Japanese hanging scroll. This format references my time living in Tokyo as a teenager. Each piece is installed with wooden dowels at the top and bottom.
