The cannonball tree, seen in Rajasthan and outside the Leela Hotel in Mumbai, is wild-looking with fruit the size of cannonballs and flowers growing directly from the trunk. Its vine-like branches almost resemble snakes. This auspicious tree has a mythical presence and is often grown near temples for Shiva where its snakelike branches are considered protective. Close-cropped, the flowers and fruit extend beyond the canvas edge. A woodblock pattern printed in the background echoes a sense of place.
