A series of crystal-clear orbs of various diameters scatter across a square mirror, their forms twisting and tilting in an improbable dance. This artwork is inspired by the five elements represented in a Buddhist stupa, as well as my childhood memories in Japan.
During my backpacking trips, I cherish the moments before sunrise when the foggy woods are still damp with morning dew. Drops of water, each a perfect sphere, cling to blades of grass, appearing to contain their own heaven and earth. These memories intertwine with my fond recollections of the clear quartz stupas, tiny Buddhist reliquaries representing the five elemental forces, found at temples and museums back in Japan.
"Praying for Rain" offers versatility in its display, as it can be hung.
