While visiting a friend, I walked by their neighbours home in the district of Sunnyside, Calgary, AB.
The whole front yard was full of wild daisies and poppies. I was blown away by the unexpected beauty I saw and very excited to capture that experiece in my studio. I approached the painting with brave and bold brushstrokes. I loved the way it unfolded, similar to the way this garden was planted. I later found out, the poppy seeds were a gift from my her grandmothers poppies. I love that she is reminded of her ancestory everytime she walks up the street she was born on. My hope is that this painting is a visual reminder that memories are strong and continuously blooming.
