Michele McCormick
Sacramento, CA
Michele McCormick is a photographer whose work is currently centered around her passion for avian artistry.
MessageMichele's interest in photography began in the 1960's when she studied the subject at Northwestern University. Her images, intended as exercises in technique, proved to be a chronicle of an important era.
After some years as a freelance writer and photographer, her energies turned in a new direction, and she began a long career in public relations, establishing her own successful business.
In 2010, she changed direction, retiring from her profession and re-initiating her photographic interest. She worked in areas including portraiture, travel, and nature photography, participating in many juried exhibits and gaining broad recognition.
In 2020, her work took a more focused direction. For years she had photographed the winter migratory birds of the Sacramento Valley. With travel and other outlets suddenly restricted by the advance of COVID, she recognized that wonderful birds are to be found throughout the region all year long. Thus began an enduring artistic passion. Her work now centers around avian photography, which brings her joy on many levels.
Statement
I feel a dynamic connection with the world around me - there is beauty and energy everywhere. I find this to be especially true in the world of birds. I find that walking through woods and refuges is a special place of joy for me. I love my observations and encounters with avian life, and the opportunity to capture those moments photographically is both rewarding and exciting.
Sharing this work is important to me on many levels. I am pleased to help create a broader awareness of the natural wonders of our region, and to create images that are emotionally evocative, as well as providing new levels of understanding,
