As a transparent vehicle, the window is that which admits light into the initial darkness of a room. But if the glass allows transfer, it also reflects, so that it ‘freezes’ and locks space. Therefore, windows are simultaneously both conveying and paralysing.
For me, the formal properties of a window, it’s framing, reflective and transparent properties, as well as its mediating role between inside and outside lends this everyday architectural element an arresting power.
