Now Showing: Masters As Muses, Cedarburg Art Museum

Now showing through January 10, 2021! Blue Night, an oil painting by Michael Anderson, is included in “Masters as Muses,” Cedarburg Art Museum’s seventh annual juried exhibition. Juror Annemarie Sawkins, Phd, independent curator selected 65 artworks from entries from 12 states. Artists were required to ascribe an influential master artist's style to their own art work, not a direct copy but rendered in a different way.

“During the current pandemic it seems as if Americans are at times living in an Edward Hopper painting, socially and psychologically distant from one another. Blue Night is a reference to Soir Bleu, a 1914 painting by Edward Hopper. The odd pink light that floods the room, the paper lantern and floor lamp also refer to the many representations of natural and artificial light seen in Hopper's works.” -Michael Anderson
