Michael Anderson has been named as the first resident artist at the Kirkwood(MO) United Church of Christ Worship Alive! program, a one year long series of events that encompass visual art, drama, music and dance as forms of meditation, prayer and worship. Michael's appointment was announced during June 30, 2013 worship services by UCC pastor Betsy Happel. The program will be guided by the Rev. Cliff Aerie, theologian and jazz musician who has performed with artists such as Bobby McFerrin and Kim Massie.
Michael will assist members of the UCC congregation in the creation of communal and individual works of art in four "art-shops" that are planned as grounds for personal creativity and spiritual renewal. The first event was held on July 13 and included 27 participants of various ages and abilities who painted an 11' long mural in a form of communal meditation. Upcoming events will feature watercolor and drawing mediums.
The Worship Alive! program is funded by a grant from from the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship with funds provided by Lily Endowment, Inc.
