Statement
Back in 2006 I was invited to teach art at the elementary school where I had taught for several years. I have loved art and expressing my creativity in a variety of ways for as long as I can rememeber. However, it was through teaching art that my passion was ignited.
As a mostly self-taught artist and an art teacher, I find myself experimenting with a variety of styles and media, which is very exciting. The relationship I enjoy with my students is a reciprocal one. They inspire me to pursue my art beyond the classroom. And in turn I want to help them find their creative voice.
I’ve always paid meticulous attention to details--seeking the nuances of light, shadow and contrasting colors. Whether in a portrait or landscape, my goal is to put the viewer in my place for that moment in time and take a long breath—inhaling the beauty that’s been captured—something desperately needed in this day and age.
In contrast to realistic painting, I let loose and enjoy the freedom of expression in abstraction--allowing colors to dance around a canvas. I enjoy the diversity of experimenting in all kinds of media.
My greatest inspiration is God—His creativity is insurmountable in the world around us. I enjoy revealing His love and beauty through painting people and landscapes, which for me, becomes a form of prayer.
Thank you for your interest in my artwork. May your days be blessed!
