I was born in Barcelona, where I cultivated my passion for space from an early age. My education in this field flourished at the Massana School, specializing in interior design, giving me the necessary tools to explore my creativity.
My journey of artistic self-discovery then took me beyond the borders of my hometown.
It was during nearly ten years in the bustling metropolis of Berlin that I delved into the world of scenography. In this constantly changing city, I found inspiration in new forms of artistic expression. My destiny took an unexpected turn when I came across the fascinating art of bookbinding. At this crossroads, I discovered how to shape space within the format of a book, thereby creating an intimate connection with those involved with my work.
In this intimate setting, books became the starting point and the ultimate destination for many of my creations. For years, I had the honor of being part of Arts Libris Barcelona and Arts Libris Madrid, presenting my works at the prestigious Arco fair and sharing my vision with fellow art enthusiasts.
My artistic commitment also led me to participate in the "En Residencia" program of A Bao A Qu, and in parallel, I was a resident at Roca Umbert for three consecutive years under the mentorship of Joan Fontcuberta, a time of deep immersion.
A crucial milestone in my artistic journey came with the solo exhibition "Álbum", held at Chiquita Room Gallery. Here, I went beyond the book format and explored spatial dimensions, marking a turning point in my work. I saw the need to occupy space and allow my creation to interact and harmonize with its surroundings.
The "Lugar.grafía" exhibition, collaborating with the 19th-century photographic techniques specialist Kati Riquelme, portrayed the territory to which we were invited, stripped of our usual practices. Photography and books offered a fresh perspective on the landscape through paper and space as the medium. I am currently preparing a new edition at the Can Mañé Art Center in Alella.
These days, my travelling exhibition "Antibiography" unfolds in various museums throughout Catalunya curated by Alexandra Laudo. This project is a tangible testimony of my artistic evolution and how my works interact with the public.
Today, my studio "el colmado" stands as a space dedicated to the art of the book, where I teach classes and coordinate activities revolving around the artistic and literary world. I am a teacher at La Industrial School in Barcelona, sharing my knowledge and passion with the creative minds of the future.
Statement
My artistic practice seeks refuge in holders: from codex to pantones, passports, albums, etc., reproducing the techniques of bookbinding.
I’ve been influenced by the writings of Marguerite Duras and the work of Sophie Calle, where the presence of autobiographical story is the primary material, and also by the movement, Concrete Poetry, of the 60s. I attempt to organize, in a similar manner to an office, the feelings emerging in the form of lists, folders and account books. I archive my existential experiences.
It’s a way to cope with secrets. The unconfessable always implies an uncomfortable place. My work points precisely to that unattainable place of perfect communication between individuals. My pieces are closed, hermetic, and devoid of the utility they have. They carry with them the inherent impossibility of getting in to them, touching them, and delving into them, despite their seductive appearance.
The way I work always has an element of provocation. I use different formats: albums, diaries, account books, identification documents, etc., where I explore the boundaries of intimacy, how we manage the private, how we make it real and visible... I’m also drawn to the beauty of crossing boundaries, and to exploring that fine line. All of this is reflected through shifts in meaning: in my pieces silences are collected, already written texts are reordered into infinite lists, whispers are written. Many aspects of personality and my own life are reduced to data.
My work is always in that challenging place between the inside and the outside, placing the viewer in a situation- whether they can or should cross that line between “you” and “me,” the inside and the outside, the private and the public.
The use of different materials determines potential in my objects. The warmth of velvet, the smoothness of the fabric, or the rigidity and opacity of materials like marble or wood, cover the objects and come back to us as visible entities.
The treatment of these holders, with techniques from other crafts such as tattooing or hunting, turns them into living entities that provoke a different reading.
Using white space and emptiness, I invite the spectator to complete the piece. I’m looking for an accomplice to help me exclaim the guarded secret that I long to express.
