MessageMelissa Carroll (b. 1960) is a Pennsylvania-based landscape painter whose work explores the interaction of light and the natural environment. A native of Lancaster County, she began oil painting in childhood after receiving early instruction from a professional artist and quickly gained experience through local exhibitions, commissions, and community-based creative projects.
Melissa earned a Fine Arts degree from York Academy of Arts (now the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design). Alongside her studio practice, she worked as a graphic designer for more than 35 years before transitioning to a full-time career as a fine artist.
Her work is informed by a lifelong engagement with nature through hiking, camping, and backpacking, as well as by the influence of artists such as Andrew Wyeth, Eric Sloane, and the Hudson River School. While rooted in traditional landscape painting, her current work also incorporates contemporary and abstract approaches.
Melissa regularly participates in juried exhibitions, plein air events, and outdoor art festivals, and her work has received numerous awards and recognition. She is a member of Marietta Art Alive, the organization behind the annual River Town Plein Air Festival in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and is a co-producer of Susquehanna Art Workshops, an in-person fine art workshop venue.
