MessageMelissa Carroll (b. 1960) is inspired by the way light interacts with all that nature has to offer. She is a landscape painter at heart.
Melissa, a Lancaster County, PA native, was captivated at a young age by a relative’s “tube paints”—and subsequent gift of new art supplies. She started oil painting as a child, attending private lessons from her professional artist neighbor. As a young student, she entered local shows and had early experience with commissions and volunteer creative projects. Melissa graduated from York Academy of Arts (now PA College of Art & Design) as a Fine Artist. In addition to painting, she worked as a graphic designer for 35+ years. Melissa is currently a full-time fine artist/painter. She participates in juried shows and plein air festivals as well as outdoor art festivals. Melissa has received numerous awards and recognitions.
Melissa grew up attending camps and took many opportunities to hike, backpack and see nature firsthand. Andrew Wyeth and Eric Sloane were her early artist heroes as well as artists of the Hudson River School. Today her paintings take inspiration from these masters in addition to new, creative abstract landscape ideas.
Melissa is a member of Marietta Art Alive which is responsible for hosting the annual River Town Plein Air Festival, Lancaster, PA and is co-producer of Susquehanna Art Workshops, a high-end in-person workshop venue.
