Melanie Mandl
Melanie Mandl works in a variety of medias, including painting, sculpture and video installation. She received her BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in the early 90’s and later went on to work as an artist and filmmaker for the shock-rock metal band, GWAR.
Melanie's work is dark and quirky and there is a subtle, whimsical tone that underpins her pieces. Her intentions are seen in the palette she chooses and her sculptor's sense of texture. Stop-motion animation and cartoon inspired illustration contribute to Melanie's general storytelling aesthetic; which touches on themes of chaos, loneliness and technicolor dreams.
Melanie lives and works in Los Angeles, and is the director of the artist studio complex Keystone Art Space.
