However, what probably captures everyone’s initial attention is the striated rock in the dilapidated fireplace. You see them in most of The Lodge photographs. This striping in many of the rocks that make up College Lodge is called Liesegang or color banding and it is created geologically locally with rhythmic precipitation of iron hydroxide within fluid-saturated rock.
