May Babcock
A papermaking artist using abundant natural materials foraged in New England, giving voice to waterways and their surrounding lands.
MessageThrough my own personal loss, I took a lot of time over a summer along calm and peaceful rivers. Attending to nature, pausing, listening the wind in the rushes and the rippling river, was slow but steady healing. As I grew a deeper bond with living plants and waters, the play of light and color on moving water surfaces, so too I hope you receive that too through these works.
I transform foraged river plants, such as Canada rush, using innovative papermaking techniques to fuse watery pulp into textured pulp paintings. ‘Pulp Paintings' are paintings that are made of different paper pulp colors, with no ink or paint involved.
