Matt Kaplinsky
Lantana, TX
Heavily inspired by a number of 19th and 20th century impressionists, Kaplinsky recreates places and still lifes in an impressionistic style.
MessageMatt Kaplinsky is an established North Texas artist who has been painting since 1991. Self taught, Matt has applied his love of biology and the environment to the concepts he works out on canvas. Occasionally, one may find subtext in his derivations of natural forms that comment on social and economic situations, or quote one or more of his favorite artists. Matt's inspiration comes from nature and mid-twentieth century contemporary artists.
Matt is also available for commissioned pieces, and specializes in large or oversized paintings.
Statement
My current work explores a style that might be described as 'folksy impressionism'. My particular point of focus is the brush mark/ mark making on the canvas. Photos I take on my travels serve as inspiration; their cropped views transform remembered images, allowing me to reinvent them. Using a style of impressionism my colorful paintings on canvas convey a feeling about viewing a space- whether seen up close, as a still life subject, or experienced as a broad vista of landscape.
I am a painter of flowers and natural history through impressionism. Commissions welcome.
