Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Calaca mask with off-white painted base. Border of eyes painted in purple. Orange, yellow, and pink cluster designs outlined in blue on the forehead and chin. Three gems on the forehead, two yellow gems and one red at the center. Outer border of teeth outlined in pink, inner border outlined in purple. Short, purple brush strokes above and below the mouth. Silver gem on each cheek. Yellow gem on the center of chin.
