Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Calaca mask with off-white painted base. Blue, pink, and orange color scheme, with small green details on the forehead and chin. Thick, blue border around eyes with orange eyebrows. Blue nose tip. Pink swirly, zigzag design on forehead. Outer border of teeth outlined in pink, inner border outlined in black. Short, orange brush strokes above and below the mouth.
