Duende 1992. Plaster bandage, paper clay, goat horns, shell, acrylic paints. Made for a theatrical performance of La Pastorela, a satirical Mexican Christmas play. Part of the diablito series, meaning little devil in spanish, they are worn in the play by children to accompany the devil as his helpers, creating mischief and causing the other characters trouble.
Half mask with goat horns. Face has many painted and sculpted moles all over the cheeks, nose, and above the lip. Eyebrows are sculpted on top of mask and carved with hairlines, painted brown. Nose is upturned to show nostrils. Five misshapen teeth of varying length made from shell protrude from a non-existent lip. Three teeth on the left side with a gap in the middle and two on the right.
