Old Anahuac. Plaster bandage, paper clay, painted with acrylics. Half mask. Part of the Sun Serpent Series.
Old man figure. Mask has sculpted and carved wrinkles along the bottom of forehead, brows, around the eyes, and above the mouth. Top part of forehead is very smooth. Brows are scrunched inwards, and painted on with brown paint. Top lip is painted light rose colored pink. Deep wrinkles carved on both sides of the nostrils are also painted with brown paint to add depth. Overall mask is painted light tan with red splotches along the cheek and nose area.
The Sun Serpent was a play produced by Childsplay, performed at Tempe Center for the Arts in 2011 .
Artist and sculptor Zarco Guerrero made about 30 masks for the performance. All of the masks were made directly on the actors to better fit them during the performance.
