Naracara
Wood, basswood
Carved by artist in the Traditional Japanese Noh mask style. The Japanese Mihon Noh Mask series are comprised of masks that represent demons, gods, and ghosts from ancient Buddhist mythology. Noh mask's are typically carved with cypress then painted over, but mahagony was chosen to create a distinct style for the artist. Naracara is the exception as it uses basswood instead of mahogany.
Oval-shaped eyes with the the pupils carved and punched out. Sclera painted in white with pink painted near the outer corner of each sclera. Mouth opened wide with the top and bottom rows of teeth painted white. Fangs included on the top row. Orange-red colored tongue sticking out and touching the bottom row of teeth. Corners of mouth painted pink. Brown hair attached to the back of the mask.
