Duende VIII. Plaster bandage, paper clay, goat horns, shell teeth, decorated with acrylic paints. Made for a theatrical performance of La Pastorela, a satirical Mexican Christmas play. Part of the diablito series, meaning little devil in spanish, they are worn in the play by children to accompany the devil as his helpers, creating mischief and causing the other characters trouble.
Half mask of human face with horns on top of head. Expression is slightly worried. Sculpted eyebrows painted brown and carved with hair lines and painted orange accents. Deep furrow lines/bumps on forehead between brows. Mask has little brown moles painted and sculpted all over on forehead, cheeks, and nose. Nose is sculpted upward. Six shell teeth of varying shapes and sizes protrude from bottom of mask.
