Cuatro Caras #3. Plaster bandage, paper clay, painted with acrylics. Part of the Sun Serpent Series. Number 3 of 4.
Four full face handheld masks that are connected along the sides to form a circle of faces. Handlebar for holding inside. Masks are all painted an orange color with blue designs along the forehead and around the eyes, with mouths painted red. They are meant to represent gossip and the actors hold them up with each hand, moving them around their heads to represent the voices of the people they hear talking.
The Sun Serpent was a play produced by Childsplay, performed at Tempe Center for the Arts in 2011.
Artist and sculptor Zarco Guerrero made about 30 masks for the performance. All of the masks were made directly on the actors to better fit them during the performance.
