Conquistador. Plaster bandage, paper clay, painted with acrylics. Half mask. Part of the Sun Serpent Series.
Male figure. Smooth faced mask except for four lines in between eyebrows in a furrowed expression. Sculpted thick eyebrows and mustache with hairs lines are painted reddish brown. Brow rest directly on tops of eye holes. Mustache extends from side to side of mask and a=hangs down over the lip. One large reddish mole sits on the left cheek. Mask overall os painted a pink and tan color with red undertones.
The Sun Serpent was a play produced by Childsplay and CALA Alliance, performed at Tempe Center for the Arts in 2011.
Artist and sculptor Zarco Guerrero made about 30 masks for the performance. All of the masks were made directly on the actors to better fit them during the performance.
