- From the New World
- Oil On Canvas
- 160 x 200 cm
- Signature: Signed in the right below corner: SCHILTKAMP 2014 The painting was originally signed in a vertical position, with the signature on the left below corner. Later I decided that the painting should be horizontal, as it was when I worked on it.
In this large painting with its facetted circles and radial rays, as if inside a crystal, the light from a new world is shimmering through the broken edges. Reflecting on the overwhelming and katharsic power of Dvorak’s Ninth Symphony, this image of the fractured light stayed with me. For one year, between 2013 and 2014, I have been working on this painting, as it underwent many changes.
I was living in Prague at the time and receptive to the new cultural influences such as Czech Cubism, which I studied to find new ways of expression. The live concert that led to this painting of Dvorak’s Symphony "From the New World" I heard in in Berlin, by the Bayerischen Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mariss Jansons in 2012.
