Statement

Sheer layers, delicate line, and dappled shadow evoke the intersection of light and organic form. Foundational elements are created on my 380 pound Takach etching press using hand carved blocks or plates, sheer inks and Japanese papers, and combined in work that considers not only the fleeting beauty of nature but its fragility as a consequence of the human experience. Unexpectedly delicate worlds are revealed when paper, ink and plate marry under the unyielding intensity of the metal drum. Organic shapes whisper of lush environments or something just out of reach; their placement, like human forms or intertwining communities, hover considering space, precarity and containment. I seek ways to encourage awareness and to capture ephemerality and mystery through printing as an expanded media.

Current inspiration comes from the expressiveness of Japanese calligraphy, the elegance of a Calder mobile, the bold forms of Italo Valenti, as well as the confidently delicate line drawings of Henri Matisse and Ellsworth Kelly.
