Inspiration
The night before I began this painting, I looked out my window a bit after sunset, as I usually do every night. The colors gripped me. They were deep – dark smokey blue sky, a peek of peachy pink, dark mauve mid-ground, and dark forest green foreground. I held the scene in my memory for the next day. And, I wrote the colors down for reference.
Process
In the previous seven paintings, I used a brush to apply the paint. Frankenthaler poured her paint and then moved it around with various tools, sometimes using brushes. So, I poured the paint on some areas of this painting. I ended up using brushes for more control as I realized my pours were not large enough to cover large areas.
