Mary Martin, Contemporary Artist specializing in collage and mixed media artwork.
MessageMary Martin, a native of St. Louis, MO, relocated to Wilmington, NC in 2024.
In her art practice since 2012, Martin works with themes of peace and joy expressed in botanical, landscape and seascape collage and mixed media art. Her work incorporates painted tissue papers, rice papers, sheet music, sacred texts, and handwritten scriptures. Her work is influenced by her love of nature, Japanese art, the Impressionists, and nearly 40 years of being a church choir singer and cantor, which has imprinted the words of the Psalms on her heart and mind. The words of scripture and sacred music are so deeply rooted in her being that they naturally express themselves in her art. Martin aims to create a visual experience where viewers can encounter moments of inner peace and joy. Martin’s work has been included in exhibits in Wilmington, NC, St. Louis, MO and across the US since she began exhibiting in 2012.
She curated the Who is God? Midwest exhibits held at Gretchen Brigham Gallery in St. Louis from 2019-2022.
Her work has been included in several books including Who Is God? Creations, Editor B. J. Woodland Clausen and Who Is God? The Collection, Editor Robert Ellison
Statement
I am a contemporary artist specializing in mixed media and collage artwork. My art is influenced by my passion for nature and gardening, scripture and inspirational texts, Japanese art and sacred music. Working with themes of peace and joy, I layer hand-printed papers, inspirational text and sheet music to create botanical images, tranquil landscapes, and seascapes. My work creates a visual experience where viewers can encounter moments of inner peace and joy.
