One of the reasons I created a series depicting coal is to bring attention to the toxic effects of mining, transporting and burning of coal. This artwork illustrates thick smoke emanating from smokestacks of coal burning factories. The pollutants contain sulfur dioxide, particulates and nitrogen oxides which contribute to acid rain and respiratory illnesses among other diseases.
