I wanted to capture this glorious black bear in a way that evoked a rustic feel —the layered background, the loose markmaking and yet paint him in a refined way that he could fit in any modern office or den. Despite being a black bear, there is very little black in this painting! I opted for browns, blues and a combination that is very close to black.
