Mary Anne Davis's studio is in the Hudson Valley. Her studio practice includes the production of works on paper, installations and multimedia collages, relational aesthetic experiences and functional porcelain objects. Her work has been included in exhibitions in the past year atthe Becket Arts Center in Becket, MA, and at Thompson Giroux Gallery in Chatham, NY. In 2013, she created an interactive installation at the Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, MA. In 2016, she was included in Ultra-Pro: Sculptures That Cook, an art/food experiential extravaganza at Art Omi in Ghent, NY.
She received the Paula Rhodes Memorial Award and scholarships from the School of Visual Arts and the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts. Davis was awarded a DEC Grant from the Greene/Columbia County Arts Councils for her development of the Mala Meal Project, an active ritual involving food and porcelain bowls.
Davis has a BFA in ceramics from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and an MFA in sculpture from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. She is currently working on a Ph.D. in critical theory and aesthetics at IDSVA. Her dissertation research is centered on artists’ role in communities with a focus on porcelain and its economic impact.
Davis lives in upstate New York with her husband and two dogs. She has one son in college.
